Sad Songs and Waltzes…and Crochet Willie Nelson Hats

July 16, 2013 by Kelli

In keeping with the tradition of turning rockers’ heads into hats, here is the latest from my collection: Willie Nelson!

My friend asked me to make “rock star” hats for her son and her father. After some back and forth, we settled on Willie for her father (and a punky mohawk for her son…look out for that post). I started this hat in the same style as the Skrillex hat: basic beanie with many, many (MANY) strands of yarn tied on and braided. Then to top it off, I added a red, signature ‘bandanna’ all around the forehead.

Many times, I’m my own worst enemy, a perfectionist that can’t help but see the flaws. However, I love this hat. I love how it turned out. And most of all, I love the pictures of people wearing it:

(There you can also see the mohawk hat, as well as some car hats I also made–again, look for that post coming soon.)

And what’s funny is how easily it turns from ‘Willie’ to ‘Rapunzel,’ depending on the wearer:
